Portinscale is a small village situated 2 miles west of Keswick on the west side of Derwent Water.

The village is popular for its two water sports centres, boat trips, biking, scenic walking routes, and hiking the extremely popular 1,480ft Cat Bells hills, one of the most popular hikes in the Lake District.

The image below is of the Chalet Cafe & Restaurant in the centre of Portinscale. The high white building straight ahead is the Derwent Water Hotel with gardens that run down to the lake, ideal for holidays, or visits for drinks and meals.

The image below is of the Dandelion Cafe situated les than half of a mile south of Portinscale centre. The cafe is situated in Derwent Water House, that also offers guest accommodation.

This house was built in 1785 as Finkle Street House. It has scenic gardens and a lawn that runs down to the lake with a small peir.

The image below is from Derwent Water House peir looking south to Nichol End Marine, about 300 yards south.

Nicol End is where the Tour Boats drop off and pick up, with a scenic path between Nicol End and Derwent Water House. Nicol End is also the stop for hikers heading for Cat Bells. There are other stops around the lake you can get picked up at, on the south side of Cat Bells, and at the south end on the lake.

Nicol End Marine has a cafe and offer all tybes of boat hire and tuition.
